NOTICE OF GENERAL ELECTION 2014The 2014 General Election will be held in Ashe County on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 to elect Federal, State and County offices as well as a vote on a proposed North Carolina Constitutional Amendment and an Ashe County Sales and Use Tax question. The Polls will be open from 6:30 A.M. to 7:30 P.M.All voters registered with the Ashe County Board of Elections, are eligible to vote in the General Election. Voters who are already registered to vote do not need to re-register to vote in the General Election. Residents of the county who are NOT registered to vote must register by Friday, October 10, 2014 before 5:00 P.M to be eligible to vote in this election. Any voter, who wished to change party affiliation or has moved since the last election, must make that change by the same date. The Office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M.Any voter may vote by absentee ballot by making a request for an application in person, in writing or by fax to the Ashe County Board of Elections. The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot by mail is 5 P.M., Tuesday October, 28, 2014. The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot due to sickness or disability is 5 P.M. Monday, November 3, 2014. To be counted, the ballot must be received by the election office by 5:00 P.M. Friday November 7, 2014 and be postmarked on or before Election Day. Any ballot received after that time will not be counted.One-Stop No Excuse Absentee Voting will begin at the Ashe County Board of Elections Office on Thursday, October 23, 2014 and will end at 1:00 P.M., on Saturday, November 1, 2014. A second site will open on Tuesday October 28, 2014. The hours for both sites and sample ballots are located on the Ashe County Board of Elections website at: www.ashecountygov.com/departments/board-of-elections/.There will be NO same day registration and voting for the General Election. Voters will be asked if they have a Photo ID but will NOT be required to show a PHOTO ID at the 2014 Election, but it will be required for the 2016 Elections. Note also that there will be no straight party voting on the General Election Ballot.Registration facilities and polling places are accessible to the elderly and handicapped. Curbside voting will be available to anyone requesting such assistance. All voters are entitled to assistance in casting their vote by an appropriate person of their choice by naming a person or requesting assistance from an election official.All Board meetings will be held in the Election office located on the second floor of the Ashe County Courthouse in Jefferson, 150 Government Circle, Suite 2100, Jefferson, N.C. The Board has Absentee Meetings scheduled for October 10th, 17th, 24th, and November 3rd, 2014, at 5:00 P.M., and will be held as needed to approve ballots or other business.
